Cocoa is a darling red tricolor mini Aussie whose coat is actually a beautiful, rich brown color with tan and white markings. Her date of birth is estimated to be September 22, 2012. She is very tiny and at 4 1/2 months old, only weighs 15 pounds. She came to North Star as an owner surrender on February 11, 2013 through no fault of her own. Her previous owners just didn’t have enough time to spend with her. She was kept alone in a garage all day for a couple of months and now loves her indoor lifestyle. She quickly learned to be crate trained and the crate is a must to continue her housebreaking and it also serves as her safe spot. When coming inside the house after having exercise outdoors, Cocoa is able to settle down and entertain herself in the crate with toys and bones. Her crate stays clean and dry as she sleeps through the night.

Being on the timid side, she will need someone who will socialize her slowly to help her gain self-confidence when meeting new people. She is playful outside with the resident dogs at her foster home and loves to run and play chase with them. She is learning to go for walks with a leash and to follow along during a walk without a leash. Cocoa is food motivated and is showing how eager she is to please. We are working on her learning “come” and “sit”. She also does well riding in the car. Based on her personality we are looking for a home for Cocoa that is Aussie experienced with no children and has a yard with a physical fence. We want to be sure she can have both physical and mental exercise on a regular basis.

Cocoa has been wormed, micro-chipped, and given her first round of puppy shots. She will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract which means a $100 deposit will need to be paid in addition to the adoption fee, and will be held until written proof is provided to North Star that she has been spayed. At that time the deposit will be refunded.

If you are interested in adopting a dog from North Star, you must apply and be approved first. You can find our online application at http://www.northstarbcrescue.org. If you have any questions or are interested in adopting Cocoa please contact Deborah@northstarbcrescue.org.

Cocoa is being fostered near Kalamazoo, Michigan.

These are the latest pictures of Cocoa enjoying a beautiful spring day! She loves to play with the other dogs but she also has such a darn good time entertaining herself with a tennis ball! She will fetch the ball and bring it to me so I can throw it for her to chase again and again. Or, she will throw it for herself and chase it around.

Cocoa is still wary in new situations but shows she is gaining confidence as she gets older.

She still loves her crate and is happy if you want her to stay in it. She sleeps all night and keeps the crate clean and dry. I can't remember when she had an accident. She will sit for a treat and comes as quick as she can when you call her. I think she weighs just under 20 pounds. In one of the pictures you can see her next to a two year old BC who weighs 30 pounds.

She has been such an easy puppy to foster. Honestly, it's awfully hard for me to say she is up for adoption because she is so adorable and sweet and really no trouble at all to have around.
