Sprocket is a beautiful purebred male Border Collie born July 28, 2011. He is your typical Border Collie that needs something to keep his active mind busy. This shouldn't be too hard as he loves to play with balls, is showing a desire to herd and absolutely LOVES playing in water.

He gets along with all the other dogs here and especially loves my older adult male Australian Shepherd Skeeter (see photo below) and follows him around constantly, like Skeeter is the coolest big brother in the world! It is fun to watch these two together.

Sprocket wasn't taught any manners at his prior home, but we are working on that and he is catching on quickly. He is doing well with his crate training - although sometimes he protests for the first few minutes. He just cannot understand why he can't always be where all the action is. ;) He is doing well with his housebreaking, but is still young and needs to be supervised to he does not have the opportunity to make mistakes.

Sprocket did not come from a very good home, and was treated harshly. He can be nervous when meeting men for the first time which may cause him to bark, but if that person will totally ignore him and let Sprocket approach on his own...it isn't long before he turns into a wiggling, tail-wagging puppy who will smother your face with kisses. He needs someone to help him build confidence after being treated roughly in the beginning.

One thing for certain is that I will require Sprocket's new owner to have Border Collie experience. There is no doubt in my mind that he can overcome his insecurities, but it MUST be done correctly. With fearful dogs it is important not to push them too fast or they can become fear aggressive. Because Sprocket needs work in this area he will not be adopted to a home with children.

In order to adopt Sprocket you will need to apply and be approved first. You can find our online application on our website at: http://www.northstarbcrescue.org. If you have any questions please email me at Toni@northstarbcrescue.org.

Sprocket is being fostered near Kalamazoo, Michigan.
