Biscuit is a male Australian Shepherd puppy born February 7, 2012. He is a happy and outgoing pup that has no clue he has a disability. You see, he was born deaf and slightly vision impaired because uncaring and uneducated humans decided to breed their female merle Australian Shepherd to a male merle Australian Shepherd. These double merle breedings result in puppies being born deaf, blind, or both. So now Biscuit must pay the price for something that was totally avoidable. Of course the humans that caused this didn’t care about anything but money…..and so we ended up having to pay to get him out of that situation or who knows WHERE he would have ended up! We brought Biscuit into North Star on March 20, 2012.
But this sweet puppy holds no grudges and loves everyone he meets. He enthusiastically gives kisses whenever your face is within reach, and comes running when you signal him by wiggling your fingers. Like most Aussies he is VERY smart and energetic. Even at his very young age, he is already interested in chasing balls and playing with toys.
Because of sight and hearing problems Biscuit will need a home with a physically fenced yard and will not be adopted to a family with children. There are several web sites that are dedicated to training deaf dogs with great ideas. If you are the lucky family to adopt this baby, you will be constantly rewarded with surprises of how truly trainable and smart deaf dogs are - and the unconditional love coming your way.
