Bogie is a 9 month old purebred Australian Shepherd. Bogie came to North Star as a 8 week old puppy and was returned to us 2 months ago when the lady that adopted him couldn't work out his issues with being left alone for long periods of time. We have been working with him for the last 2 months and he is now house broken and overcome all but one issue.

Bogie is now ready to find his forever home. He is very smart, active and playful and will need further obedience training. Bogie is very easy to train as he is very focused on you and food/toy motivated. He would do best in a home with another dog, here he has 3 playful bossy females to romp with and is wonderful at listening to their signals when they've had enough. Bogie is a big guy, he weighs 52 pounds now and will continue to grow for the next few months. For this reason Bogie will need a home without small children. He does very well with kids but only after settling down, he has no idea of his size or strength and has knocked over my 5 yr old nephew while running in the yard to get his ball. Bogie has a strong herding drive and would probably try to herd a group of kids that were running and playing.

Bogie is a delight to have around, he LOVES and wants to be near his people. This desire to be near people made it very easy to teach him recall. He does wonderful off leash in the yard and everywhere we've taken him while building up his confidence. Recall was a must for Bogie as he is lightening fast when he runs. He enjoys car rides and is a seasoned traveler having gone on several trips with us already. Bogie will retrieve anywhere be it in the house, outside or in the water...your arm will wear out before this guy does

To say he loves to swim is a understatement, he doesn't go in just because he's hot. He loves the water no matter what the temperture is outside OR water temp. He was in the unheated pool this weekend before we closed it for the season. Bogie is a very strong swimmer and has to be told 'no swimming' or he jumps right in whatever water he sees. While working in the yard he has sat on the pool steps with his water kong for over 20 minutes waiting for you to come back and play.

The only issue we have not been able to work through with Bogie is being left alone for more then a hour or two. He becomes extremely upset when he is left alone for any length of time. Aussies are lovingly nicknamed "velcro dogs" and this description fits Bogie perfectly. He is very content to just be around his people. He settles right down in the house, usually laying near your feet. At night and meal times now he goes into his crate without being asked to kennel up. Bogie does okay for the first hour or so, until his frozen Kong or goodie we've left him in the crate is gone then he begins to bark and becomes stressed. We have a Thundershirt coming for him and are hopeful this helps him when he's left alone.

Bogie is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped, on heart worm preventative, housebroken and crate trained. For more information on Bogie please email: Summerefx@hotmail.com

Bogie is being fostered near Roscommon, Michigan.
