Claire is a sweet female Border Collie who we believe was born sometime around June of 2009. She is a big girl at around 50 pounds, and has the cutest split-face and freckles.
Her troubles started when her prior owners never bothered to spay her, and then when she became pregnant and had 10 puppies….dumped her and her babies at a shelter in Fort Worth, Texas.

After being there almost a month, North Star heard about them and with the help of a local rescue – managed to get them out and into a nearby vet clinic. However by this time, four of the puppies had already died and unfortunately the remaining six were diagnosed with Parvo. Claire was extremely emaciated and weighed only 39 pounds (see picture below), but luckily did not contract Parvo.

Despite our best efforts to save them, we eventually lost all of the six puppies. But we were able to save Claire, thanks to the excellent care she received at the vet clinic. After two months she was finally able to make the trip from Texas to her current foster home in Michigan. Here she is on the first leg of her transport from Texas to Oklahoma.

Clare arrived in Michigan on August 28, 2011. She has settled in well with all her foster brothers and sisters and is a very affectionate and sweet girl. She has lost a lot of her hair from having the puppies, but her new coat is growing in soft and shiny. She was recently spayed and microchipped, and is current on all her shots. She is on heartworm preventative and flea/tick preventative. She is crate trained and is learning to walk on a leash. She gets along great with other dogs and does pretty well with the cats...although she will try to chase if they run.
