Chester is a red tri-color, male Australian Shepherd puppy (with a full tail) born April 7, 2011. He came to North Star July 10, 2011 when his prior owner, Sarah, had a change of jobs that would require her to work very long hours. She made the difficult decision to give up Chester as she knew being left alone for long periods of time at his young age.....was not the kind of life a herding dog deserved. Chester comes from working stock and was purchased so he could be trained to help herd their cattle and goats. Even at his young age he was already learning quickly and showed great promise - but Sarah knew she could not train him properly with the limited time she now has.
Chester was not in the best of shape when Sarah bought him at eight weeks old. His coat was in poor condition and he was thin from having been born and living his first eight weeks of life in an outdoor shed. There must not have been much human contact as all the puppies in the littler were fearful of people. Sarah worked to help Chester to get him to feel more comfortable with people, and he was showing signs of improvement. However, he still needs help in this area and his foster mom will be slowly introducing him to the "outside" world so he will have positive exeriences and hopefully gain more confidence. For this reason and also because of his strong herding drive, Chester will NOT be adopted to a home with children.
Watch for more information on Chester as he settles into his new foster home. If you have any questions or would like more information you can contact his foster mom at:

Chester is being fostered near Kalamazoo, Michigan.
