Oscar was 12 weeks old when he came to North Star on 8/21/10. He is a male Border Collie mix puppy that came into NSBCR along with his six littermates from a rural shelter in Lewis Port, KY. A kind shelter worker notified us that they needed help and worked with us to get them. Thanks to the help of our amazing volunteers, the pups made the long transport to Michigan.

We were told the pups were dropped off in an elderly man's yard and he tried to take care of them but was in over his head. The man's son got the puppies and brought them to the shelter. They were COVERED in ticks and fleas and extremely emaciated. The shelter has limited funds but did all they could to help the pups. They were there for a week before they came to us, I cannot imagine how bad they must have looked because they still are very thin and were full of worms. On top of that, they have sores all over their bodies from fleas, ticks and flies. You can see that Oscar ears have been eaten by flies....it just breaks your heart to look at him. He is very small and frail. He also has a LOT of hair loss and scabs all over his body.

Oscar is going to need some special care to get him built back up to the weight he should be. You can see some hair loss due to the fleas and ticks....but now he is getting good food, care and medical attention and will bounce back soon.

If you are interested in Oscar you can contact his foster mom at Chasity@northstarbcrescue.org. In order to adopt Oscar you will need to fill out our online application located here: http://northstarbcrescue.org/index/inde ... &Itemid=39

Oscar is being fostered near Kalamazoo, MI.

Oscar and his littermates went to the vet on 8/23/10 and received his DHLPP and Lyme's vaccinations, a Bordatella and was microchipped. He is loaded with worms and also has coccidia. He was given an Iverheart Max to take care of all the worms and will be on Albon for the coccidia for three weeks. He is also on 125mg of Cephalexin twice per day for 10 days. The vet did not feel the hair loss was caused by mange....and thought some good baths would help clear things up.

Oscar weighed 9.6 pounds at his vet appointment.

Oscar is the most shy of the litter but is slowing coming out of his shell each day. He does come up and receive affection but will shy away if he is alone. He is pretty outgoing otherwise. He doesn't seem to mind investigating things out in the yard by himself and will actually leave his siblings and go to other parts of the yard without them. He will let you hold him but is a little scared at times. He will just melt into our arms like his sister Olivia does and will sit on your lap until you decide to put him down. Oscar has the cutest ears. His are the only ones of his siblings that stand straight up. He is one of the smaller pups of the four. He and his sister Olivia are about the same size. Oscar is starting to get white around his nose and tip of his mouth. His fur has filled in nicely and his ears are looking a lot better now that he has fur on the tips. You can't notice the fly bites on them as much. He is turning out to be quite a handsome boy.

Here is a recent update from Ozzie's mom. It is wonderful to hear he is doing so well and is thriving in his forever home. :D

Chasity,

I don't know if you remember me but my husband and I adopted Ozzie from the "O" litter you had last year. We love Ozzie! He's a wonderful dog - everything we were looking for. He and I are finishing up beginning obedience at Kalamazoo Kennel Club and I'm looking for beginning agility classes after January 1. The kennel club isn't offering a daytime class which is what I need so I'm looking in other communities.

Anyway, I hope you are well and that all the other "O" puppies found good homes.

thank you and take care,
Andrea and Ozzie
