Peanut was 12 weeks old when she came to North Star on 8/21/10. She is a female Border Collie mix puppy that came into NSBCR along with her six littermates from a rural shelter in Lewis Port, KY. A kind shelter worker notified us that they needed help and worked with us to get them. Thanks to the help of our amazing volunteers, the pups made the long transport to Indiana.

We were told the pups were dropped off in an elderly man's yard and he tried to take care of them but was in over his head. The man's son got the puppies and brought them to the shelter. They were COVERED in ticks and fleas and extremely emaciated. The shelter has limited funds but did all they could to help the pups. They were there for a week before they came to us, I cannot imagine how bad they must have looked because they still are very thin and full of worms. On top of that, they have sores all over their bodies from fleas, ticks and flies.

Peanut has the cutest little right ear that is about 1/3 the size of her left. She could NOT be more adorable and is such a tiny little thing. She is going to need some special care to get her built back up, but her foster mom said she is a fighter and tries her best to hold her own with the other pups. You can see quite a bit of hair loss due to the fleas and ticks....but now she is getting good food and care, and will bounce back soon.

If you are interested in Peanut you can contact her foster mom at PaulaH@northstarbcrescue.org. In order to adopt Peanut you will need to fill out our online application located here: http://northstarbcrescue.org/index/inde ... &Itemid=42

Peanut is being fostered near Muncie, IN.

Big things come in little packages so the saying goes and Peanut is trying to live up to that! She is one FAST little girl and will race across the pasture to get to anyone who will pet and hold her. She tries to hold her own with her litter mates and can growl and tug with the best of them. Her right ear is a small triangle but the vet said her ear canal is fully formed and her hearing seems fine. She has personality plus to make up for her diminutive size and is sure to steal lots of hearts.

Peanut is making wonderful progress here a the farm and has grown quickly. She is still small enough to bathe in the kitchen sink but doesn't look like a toy breed mix so much anymore  She is the snuggler of the bunch. She loves to rest in your arms and will lay there as long as you will hold her. She is less confident in new surroundings than her siblings and will run for the barn if something frightens her. She did growl and bark at the TV though yesterday after her bath while she was getting dried off  Her coat is going to be very short and shiny and the sores she had when she arrived are all disappearing as new hair begins to cover them up. Peanut will be ready to go to her foster home as soon as she completes her meds and gets microchipped. She will make a nice companion level puppy for someone and will make a loving partner.

Peanut went to the vet today and got her last round of shots as well as being microchipped. She's really grown in three weeks and weighed in at 12.5#--a gain of 5.5#! She is still the littlest of the litter but don't let her size fool you...she's tough and loves to play with the big dogs here on the farm. She is quite the little snuggler as well and loves to sit on the couch beside you watching TV--it just facinates her.
Peanut will start working on her crate training and housebreaking this weekend and she's such a smart girl she's sure to catch on quickly. Her coat is glossy black and although smooth has a little length to it. Peanut is up to date on all her vaccinations, dewormed, on HW medication and microchipped. She is ready for her forever home. One look in this little doll's eyes and you'll know she's going to be a wonderful companion.

Peanut in her hot pink "girlie" sweatshirt. Could she be any cuter?

Beth & Paula,

Just wanted to send you an update on Josie (aka Peanut). We are coming up on our 1st year of adoption. Josie weighs in at about 32 pounds, so she is a little on the small side. Don't tell her that, she will disagree. Her hair has grown in great, compared to when she came into the rescue. Her little ear, is still the cutest thing and people really don't even notice it. Whether she can hear out of it, I really don't know. In the last year she has really shown her personality. She has an old soul in a young dog kinda way. She has yet to find a stranger..I call her my social butterfly. With Josie thinking everyone is her best friend. I decided we would try to see if she could be a therapy dog. In June 2011 shortly after her 1st birthday she did pass her Therapy Dog test and her Canine Good Citizen exam. She is now registered with Therapy Dog International (TDI) and AKC CGC. We are planning our first outing on Sept 7. I am so excited to be able to share her love with someone who really just needs a smile. (or a nudge of her little wet nose) We will send picture of Josie's first trip soon. Josie and I are very grateful to be a part of North Star Border Collie rescue and the amazing things you all do.

Thanks again!
Amanda & Josie
